Walter Isidoro Bresciani, 87, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, in Gilroy. He was born April 4, 1930, in Gordevio, Valle Maggia, Ticino Switzerland. He lived and worked in the Salinas Valley for 70 years. He worked as a dairyman and farmer. Walter served two years in the U. S. Army and was stationed at Fort Ord and Anchorage, Alaska. Walter was a member of the Monterey County Swiss Rifle Club, serving as Treasury for more than 25 years; past President of the Monterey County Swiss American Club; past President and Board of Director for Pro Ticino of Northern California. He was preceded in death by parents, Giovanni and Ilda (Nicola) Bresciani; wife of 49 years, Louise (Deprati) Bresciani; sisters, Armida Rolandi, Anita Hartman; and brother, Renato Bresciani. He is survived by daughter, Carole Portrum; son, John (Peggy) Bresciani; grandchildren, Ryan (Amy) Tomas, Trinity (Eddie) Rodriguez, Rachael Portrum, Jonathan (Christy) Bresciani, Joe Bresciani; and great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Zachary Thomas, Sophia, Gabriella, Giulianna, and Riley Bresciani, Kayden Castro, Dominick Davis. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 West San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 West San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901. Burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901. Memorial donations in Walter’s name can be made to the donors’ charity of choice.
