Services: None planned. BAYLISS Muriel Eugenia Vosti McCorkle Muriel Eugenia Vosti McCorkle, 93, whose love warmed the hearts of her family and friends, died Sunday, Jan.

30, 2005. Born Jan. 18, 1912, to Enos Murial Eugenia Vosti McCorkle and Fulvia Vosti, she grew up, on a small dairy farm near Salinas. One of her favorite poems, "The Best Things in Life Are Free" ends: "It isn't what we own or buy that signifies our wealth. It's the special gifts that have no price: our family, friends and health." She married the late Stanley Harold McCorkle on Nov.

20, 1932, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary three years ago. Stan and Muriel McCorkle farmed in the Soledad area at the foot of Blue Mountain, head of Shirttail Canyon near Pinnacles National Monument until moving to Bayliss. They started farming operations in the area in 1950. The mother of three sons, Muriel started a 4-H program for local boys so they could learn cooking and homemaking skills. Her culinary skills were so widely recognized that she judged cakes, pies and canned food at the county fair for many years.

She developed considerable expertise in growing camellias and shared her flowers and the remarkable produce grown in her garden and orchard with friends in the Bayliss community. Survivors: Sons, Lee and his wife, Marlene of Bayliss, Don and his wife Patty of King City, and Bob and his wife Mary of Los Osos; 10 grandchildren and 19 greatgrandchildren, Lynnette Galbraith of Durham, Phillip and Gregg McCorkle and Kelly Geiger of Bayliss, Synthia McCorkle of San Jose, Mashael Brown of Hollister, Jennifer McCorkle of Folsom, Elizabeth McCorkle of Washington, D.C., Bonnie Kraemer of San Luis Obispo and Robyn Weinstock of Petaluma. She always had a listening ear and a full cookie jar for them. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb.

Rapper gets 12 years The Associated Press LONG BEACH Rapper Tray Deee, who formed the group Tha Eastsidaz with rappers Snoop Dogg and Goldie Loc, was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday in connection with a 2003 shooting. She was born July 25, 1923, in North Fork, lived in Salinas Pearl Peggie for 21 years Moore and the last 27 years in Tuolumne. She enjoyed gardening, Native American Pow-wows, Indian hand games and cards. She also loved to travel and dance. Military: U.S. Army, WAC in World War II.

Memberships: Women Moose; Tribal Elder of the North Fork Mono Rancheria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Chuck Moore, and son, Michael Moore. Survivors: Daughter, Filaine Gerbing of Tuolumne; son, Elmer (Donna) Winfree of Palo Cedro; grandchildren, Bill Winfree of San Diego, Dean Winfree of Alturas, Michael Gerbing of Tuolumne, Brandi Gerbing of Tuolumne; greatgrandchild, Denise Winfree of Alturas; several nieces and nephews. Charges likely in death of frat pledge The Associated Press CHICO Criminal charges will probably be filed in the death of a 21-year-old California State University student who died while undergoing hazing at a rogue fraternity, a police spokesman said Thursday. Matthew William Carrington of Pleasant Hill died early Wednesday while drinking large amounts of water and doing exercises in the basement of the Chi Tau house, about five blocks from the university's Chico campus, said Sgt. Dave Barrow. An autopsy revealed that death was triggered by "water intoxication," said Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey. "He had too much water, which depleted the sodium which was necessary to maintain heart rhythm and his heart stopped," Ramsey said.

Barrow said Carrington and another Chi Tau pledge were "drinking large amounts of water out of a five-gallon jug and intermittently doing exercises such as push-ups. Sheldon Whiting Sheldon Whiting, 90, of Salinas, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, after a long productive life. He was born March 1, 1914, in Red Bank, N.J., to Marion Morton and George Eaton Whiting. In 1936, he married Josephine Mary Campbell, with whom he had three children.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in Guadalcanal, where he was commended for heroism. He was discharged in 1946 in Santa Rosa, where he moved his family and accepted a job with Tay-Holbrook and Co. He subsequently moved to Eureka, where he was appointed manager of the firm's branch there. He and his family resided in Eureka for 31 years.

In 1979, he and his wife, Josephine, moved to Salinas where he worked with Hayward Lumber Co. and San Lorenzo Lumber. Mr. Whiting was a skilled manager who had many diverse interests. He was an accomplished mechanic and carpenter who could build almost anything, including sophisticated cameras and radios, with his bare hands.

He held patents on a number of inventions. He was also an accomplished photographer whose photographs received wide recognition in Northern California. He was known for his integrity, sense of humor, cheerfulness and love of football. Survivors: Beloved wife of 68 years, Josephine; daughter, Margo Ramsey of Salinas; sons, Robert (Machiko) Whitof Japan and Edward Whiting of Carmel; grandchildren, Debbie (Tim) Sparks of Texas, Matt (Gracie) Fisher, Ross (Jamie) Ramsey, Leslie (Steve) Bassi, Laurie (Kevin) Stallcup and Julie (Jeff) Jenkinson of Salinas; great-grandchildren, Cody Fisher, Steven and Erin Bassi, Erik and Whitney Frame, Amy Jenkinson, Ryan and Amanda Stallcup, Tyler Ramsey and Jason Adcock. Services: Were held Jan.

Belen enjoyed to play guitar and sing with her sisters and brother, Martin. She also loved Belen Camacho Perea to spend time with her family and friends. She liked gardening and tending to her birds.
