The man in the vehicle said he did not have one, and the man who'd approached them pulled a handgun from his waistband and demanded an envelope sitting on the center console area of the vehicle, police said. The envelope contained cash. The victim complied, and the robber fled. By KIMBERIY CHASE The Salinas Califomian Family members of Robert Anthony Carrillo Jr. who was shot and killed by Salinas police last year stood in solidarity with civil rights advocates Friday during the announcement of a wrongful death lawsuit The family filed suit Aug. 31 against the city of Salinas, police Chief Daniel Ortega and three police officers involved in the shooting. On May 16, 2004, Officer Adam Shaffer shot Carrillo, who was stabbing "Khef," a police dog sent into a house to apprehend him, police have said. Police have said Shaffer fired because he feared Carrillo was about to stab Klief handler.

During Friday's news conference in front of the Monterey County Courthouse in Salinas, Carrillo's mother, daughter and ex-wife stood with Cris Padilla of the League of United Latin American Citizens and Helen Ruck-er of the Civil Rights Coalition of Monterey County.
