She was born in March 28, 1928, Green Bay, Wis. She lived in Salinas from 1934 until 2001. Jeane She then Jeane Azzopardi Jeane Azzopardi moved to San Diego County. Memberships: Girls Scouts and the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Service League, where she served as president from 1974 to 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Azzopardi in 1998.

SALINAS Helen Catherine Prader Helen Catherine Prader, 80, of Salinas died Thursday, Jan.

8, 2004, at her home in Salinas. She was born April 17, 1923, in Oakland, raised in Berkeley, and had lived in Salinas for 55 years. She retired after working as an investor for more than 30 years. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor's degree in business. Memberships: Cal Alumni Association, Bear Backers, Kappa Delta sorority, American Association of University Women, Birthday Girls of Porter and Irvine.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Prader, in 1975. Survivors: Daughter, Sheila Lee Prader of Aromas; sons, Jake (Lise) Prader, Tim (Sue) Prader, both of Salinas, and Keith (Kimberly) Prader of Boulder Creek; and seven grandchildren. Services: A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Corral de Tierra Country Club, 81 Corral de Tierra Road, Salinas.

Inumment: Ashes will be placed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 768 Abbott Salinas. Max Duane Barnes, country songwriter, dies The Associated Press NASHVILLE, Tenn. Country songwriter Max Duane Barnes, who wrote for George Jones, Merle Haggard and Vince Gill, died of complications from pneumonia. He was 67. Barnes died Sunday at Baptist Hospital, according to Hendersonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Barnes' best-known tunes included "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" for Jones, "Look at Us" for Gill and the Grammy-nominated "Chiseled in Stone" for Vern Gosdin.

"Chiseled in Stone" was written after Barnes' son Butch, 18, died in a car accident in 1975. Barnes told Gosdin about the pain of seeing his son's name on a gravestone. Barnes formed a country band as a teenager, and the lead singer became his wife, Patsy. Robert Lee Strickland Jr. Robert died Tuesday, Robert Lee Strickland Jr. He attended elementary school in Pacific Grove and graduated from Pacific Grove High School. He enjoyed helping others and spending time with his grandchildren. Wayne David Sewell Wayne Salinas, Wayne David David Sewell, 70, of died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula after a bicycle accident. He was born July 4, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived in Salinas for Sewell 46 years.

He was a stockbroker with Webber for more than 46 years. He graduated from the University of Utah, earning a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He was a born again Christian. Military: U.S. Air Force.

Italian photographer David Lees dies at 86 The Associated Press FLORENCE, Italy David Lees, a photographer who captured decades of Italian history in hundreds of pictures for Life magazine, died Saturday of pneumonia. He was 86. Lees died at a hospital in Florence, according to Cosimo Chiarelli, who curated a recent exhibit of Lees' work at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

Lees began collaborating with Life after World War II. Throughout his career, he chronicled all sorts of events, from the ascension of popes to everyday stories. He also covered fashion shows. ROSE CLARK. ABR.
