Montgomery Allene "Kelly" Montgomery, 72, died peacefully on Good Friday, March 25, 2005, following a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer's syndrome. She was born in Buffalo, Allene B. N.Y., and was Montgomery raised with her four brothers and her sister in Ashville, N.Y. She was married for 17 years to James B. Montgomery and raised their three sons between Green Bank and Linwood, N.J.

She was a very dynamic, creative and industrious woman who loved entertaining, gardening, refinishing antique furniture, playing piano and baking. Her three sons put up quite a struggle as young boys as their mother got them dressed up for Sunday school but she would be proud to know that they are still following the Lord as adults today. Her zest for life and hard work was unfortunately cut short by the onset of Alzheimer's in 1996.

Governor's prison plan advancing Schwarzenegger attempting to reorganize entire penal system By DON THOMPSON The Associated Press SACRAMENTO Legislators are on the verge of giving Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger most of what he wants in reorganizing the state's troubled prison system, pinning control and responsibility on his hand-picked corrections chief. The governor wants, to shift power from adult Department of Corrections and the Youth Authority to a consolidated Cabinet-level Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, headed by current Youth and Adult Correctional Secretary Roderick Hickman. The proposal is the vanguard of the Republican governor's larger plan to eventually restructure state government. It has become more pressing as the prison system faces a seemingly neverending series of scandals and scathing experts' reports even as it fights a climbing population and dwindling budget.

Schwarzenegger withdrew as premature a companion proposal to eliminate dozens of state boards and commissions. But Democrats who control the Legislature are preparing to let his prisons plan take effect automatically May 3 but immediately pass compromise legislation that would amend it to deal with their concerns and objections raised by the watchdog Little Hoover Commission.
