February 15, 2003 Californian pleted trade school in Chicago in 1943. He was an avid stamp collector, which began in his youth and continued until his death. He enjoyed donating all his extra stamps to the Church of the Good Shepherd, which helps blind children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Emily Odau; brother Raymond Odau; and three sisters, Olga Wilson, Malitta Heck and Lillian Hinz. Memberships: He was a lifetime, active member of the Salinas Moose Lodge No.

1165 for 52 years, where he served on the board of officers for many years and went to the higher degree of fellowship with his volunteer work and community service. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Salinas. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 31, the SIRS of Salinas and the Salinas Stamp Club. Military: He was in the U.S. Navy in June 1943 as a radio specialist on the USS Salt Lake City in the South Pacific during World War II.

He served until 1945. Survivors: Wife of 31 years, Bobbie Gene Barnett Odau of Salinas; daughters, Carmen Moore of Beaverton, Stella Hazelberg of Salinas and, Karla Jones of Prunedale; sister, Dolores Barnett of Salinas; 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was born July 11, 1909, in Richardton, N.D., and lived in Modesto for six years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Gonzales, where she lived from 1937 to 1996. Robert Arthur Gingrich, 85, of Seaside, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at SunBridge Care Center in Monterey from complications due to Parkinson's disease.

He was born Dec. 20, 1917, in Osark, and lived in Monterey County The Rev. Robert for 41 years. He Arthur was a Baptist Gingrich minister for 68 years and retired from civil service at Fort Ord. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church and a pastor of Baptist churches in Illinois, Alaska and California.

He also taught seminary extension. He received his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University and his doctorate from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary i in Mill Valley. He was an avid reader and served as a leader in the 'aptist Expression of Marriage Encounter Group. Military: U.S. Navy in shore patrol during WWII.
