Items for animals also appear in the classifieds section.g Louise Marie Flicker Louise Marie Flicker died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004. She was born May 27, 1917, in Minnesota. She lived in Sacramento until 1949, when she and her family moved to Salinas and she co-founded with her husband Perry's Sewing Machine Center. After 27 years in business, they Flicker sold Perry's and founded Enterprises, which they ran until retirement.

She was a master machine-embroiderer who monogrammed shirts, jackets, banners and other forms of logos for almost all affiliated or sports groups in the Monterey County area. Louise enjoyed playing bingo with her family and friends and enjoyed travel, including cruises and spending time at Lake Tahoe, Reno and Las Vegas. Survivors: Husband, Perry G. Flicker; daughter, Joanne M. Nuckols and her husband, Tom; granddaughter, Tina Kistinger and her husband, Ken; grandson, Brett Nuckols; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and Bingo Buddies.

Was held at the family plot in Sacramento. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, in the Townsend Room at the Elks Lodge, 614 Airport Salinas. TRES PINOS Frank L. Alexander Frank L. Alexander, 64, of Tres Pinos, died March 12, 2004, at Salinas' Valley Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1940, in Salinas and lived in San Benito County for the past 35 years.

He was a pesticide control agent for Soil Serv Inc. for 35 years and retired three years ago. He graduated from Salinas High School and received his Associate of Arts degree from Hartnell College. He enjoyed being with people. He was very caring and a loyal friend.

He loved fishing outdoors Monterey Bay and hunting in California and out-of-state. Memberships: Former member of Hollister Lodge No. 1436, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Also a member of the California Association of Pest Control Advisers; Northern California Golf Association; Bolado Park Golf Club; and the Bolado Park Men's Club. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jill Alexander.

Survivors: Wife, Tia Alexander of Tres Pinos; brother, Dean Alexander of Salinas; daughter, Jenifer Friedle of Templeton; and grandchildren, Jason Friedle and Jakob Friedle of Templeton. Celebration of Life: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at The Inn At Tres Pinos, 6991 Airline Highway, Tres Pinos. Inurnment: Private services will be held. Vote-counting1 specialist dies in auto crash The Associated Press NASHVILLE, Tenn. Athan Gibbs an accountant who devoted himself to developing a better way to record and count votes after the 2000 presidential election, died Friday in a car crash. He was 57. Troubled by problems in the 2000 election, Gibbs invented the TruVote Vote Validation System, which he said was designed to restore the public's confidence in the ability to get each and every vote counted.

Friends and family said Gibbs had been working on the TruVote system and, with backing from Microsoft was marketing his invention nationwide. Gibbs spent about three years and roughly $2 million including thousands of dollars of his own to develop and market the voting system. MILITARY SERVICE The Salinas Californian designates obituaries of military veterans with a flag to honor them for their Harold William Douglas Harold William Douglas, 88, of Groveland, died Feb. 26, 2004, at his home. He was born Jan.

28, 1916, in Blackfoot, Idaho, and lived in Groveland for four years. He was a district representative for Division of Housing for the State of California for 29 years. His districts were Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz. He lived in Salinas for 23 years, later retiring to Reno, for seven years and Modesto for three years before moving to Groveland. He enjoyed golf.

Military Service: He was a World War II Navy veteran. Memberships: 32nd Degree Mason with Blue Lodge in Salinas; Scottish Rites; and Pine Mt. Lake Senior Niners, Men's Golf Club. Survivors: Wife of 64 years, Emily Jane Douglas of Groveland; sons, Malcom William Douglas of King City and Scott Wallace Douglas Carol of Salinas; daughters, Hauprich of Groveland and Barbara Jean Pavao of Manteca; grandchildren, Darcy Wolf of Modesto, Jason Murra of Groveland, Nigel Pavao of San Francisco, Sara Pavao of Manteca and Katy Douglas of King City; great great-grandchildren, Brianna Wolf of Modesto and Raven Pavao of San Francisco; and sister, Lucille Gregg of Modesto. Memorial services: 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Norwegian novelist Finn Carling dies The Associated Press OSLO, Norway Finn Carling, a Norwegian novelist and playwright whose tales of outsiders and misfits were colored by his own struggle with cerebral palsy, has died.

He was 78. Carling died Friday at his home in Oslo after a lengthy illness. Carling studied psychology before becoming a writer. He made his debut in 1949 with the play "Glasskulen" and the novel "Broen." His most famous work is the autobiography "And Yet We Are Human," translated into English in 1962, in which he described the challenges of living with a disability. Check Out!
