Snorting and raging, the bulls also trampled a horse and terrified a grandstand full of people who were gathered to watch a "Dancing With Bulls" event featuring rodeo clowns. She was born July 13, 1935, and raised in Lorraine Castroville, Cursi-Barker Calif. She resided in Salinas for the last 34 years.

She retired as a self-employed business owner. She attended Castroville Elementary and graduated from Salinas High School. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald N. Barker, and parents Hugo and Lena Cursi. Her first and foremost passion was spending quality time with her family, reading and attending plays and movies.

Memberships: Prior to her illness, she was active in the Artichoke Festival Committee, volunteered at the Steinbeck House and was a lifetime member of the Salinas Elks. She also was a member of the Castroville Club. Survivors: sons, Robert Barker of Salinas, Lonn (Janice) Barker of Marina; daughters, Denise (Randall) Amerison of Salinas, Bambi Barker of Salinas; grandchildren, Joey Amerison of Salinas, Kasey Barker of Marina, Kaitlyn and Kelsey Ajir of Marina. 20, 2007, in Salinas. James was born in Castroville on Nov. 20, 1931, and was a lifelong resident of Castroville and Salinas. He graduated from Salinas High School in 1951 and from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in 1953. Jim was awarded allaround Rodeo Champion at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

He worked for for 36 years. Memberships: He was past president of the Native Sons of the Golden West, Castroville parlor No. 132. He was a gold card member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association and a member of the Retirees Club. He was also a volunteer for the Salinas California Rodeo Association Arena and Monterey County Agriculture Education.

He was preceded in death by his son, James W. Lyons, in 2006. Survivors: Wife, Jean Lyons of Salinas; daughter, Nelle Lyons of Salinas; sister, Lois (Emil) Gumper of Watsonville; and family friend, Lisa Myers of Salinas. Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m., Thursday Aug. 23 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W.

Josefa was born Dec. 22, 1908, in Paniqui, Tarlac, Phillipines. She came to the United States Josefa Apong Peralta in 1967 her the enjoyed cooking traditional Filipino foods for her family. To her family, she was known as Apong, which means grandmother in the Filipino language. But this word meant far more to her family.

Apong meant love and respect. She instilled great values and religion to her family. She taught her family and all who knew her how important prayer and faith in God is. She was an inspiration to all of them. To everyone who knew her, she was the icon of hope, love, strong spirit, faith and life.

Apong showed us how to live life to the fullest and how to cherish each moment. She will be sadly missed but will be lovingly remembered forever. We will miss her warm smile and contagious laugh. Survivors: She is survived by her seven children: Pedro Peralta, Braulio Peralta, Maria Silvestre, Leonora Sudaria, Rosalie Silvestre, Virginia Sabado and Julie Bustoz. She also is survived by 36 grandchildren, 78 greatgrandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mauricio Peralto; two daughters, Erinia Ildefonso and Anita Arocena; and a son, Andres Peralta. Visitation: Will be Thursday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Whitehurst Muller Funeral Home, 41 E.

Scattini, Salinas, "Scat" or "Augie," 87, of went home to our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007. He died peacefully at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital with August M. his family and Scattini friends at his side. He was born June 27, 1920, in Tenero, Switzerland, and lived in Salinas for more than 60 years.

At the age of 5, his family came to the United States. They settled in Greenfield, James L. Lyons Calif. He attended Greenfield and King City schools, graduated from King City High School in 1938 and attended Salinas Junior College, now known as Hartnell College. He became a U.S.

citizen. Military: Served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in Italy. Scat married the love of his life, Jo Marquez, in 1948. He retired after 28 years at Sears, where he managed both the carpet and automotive departments. Memberships: August was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacristan for daily Mass.

He also volunteered his time for Meals on Wheels and Saint Vincent De Paul. He loved his family and friends very much, always putting the will of God first. Because he was a person who made friends easily, Scat was known and loved by many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Paulina; brothers, Arthur and Hugol Scattini; daughter, Mary Ann Scattini; and grandson, Jon Michael Scattini Survivors: He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jo; daughters, Paula (Randy) Parola, Catherine (Terry) O'Brien; son, Jon (Mary) Scattini; brother, Hugo (Theresa) Scattini; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation: Will be held Thursday, Aug.
